Last Sunday flowers bloomed at Ryo's accident site.
This painting was done by Right of Way, an organization whose mission is "to assert the public right of way and turn the streets into vibrant public space for all". They installed this memorial art at 12 locations where a pedestrian or cyclist was killed by a driver.
If you remember, they have installed a different painting for Ryo in March 2013 as well. The paint has faded from rain, and so Audrey Anderson and Evelyn Cancel who lost their loved sons had been asking Right of Way to re-stencil the new picture. (Please go to Right of Way's website for the more details about the story behind the stencil. )
This time, they kindly asked each family for the words accompanying the picture.
The words Ryo's family decided on is "One for All 心永遠なり(kokoro eien nari)" . ”心永遠なり" means "Your spirit is eternal" in Japanese.

You can also see the other pictures from the painting day from Ride of Remembrance and Hope. Please take a moment to read each message accompanied with the stencil. They are all very touching.
These stencils mean a lot to the families.
Hsi-Pei Liao and Amy Tam, the parents of Allison Liao were there for the Oyamadas who could not be when Ryo's stencil was being done. Hsi-Pei sent us pictures from the site. The Oyamadas said "We don't live in New York, but it is extremely encouraging and warming to know that someone who can share our same passion is there for us. We appreciate the people who painted the stencil and those who went to the accident site to witness the painting."
Thank you very much, Right of Way!!!!

Ryo's case had some new moves as you can read on Gothamist.
The Oyamadas are hoping that revealing the fact hidden by NYPD's poor investigation and lies prevents future tragedies.
And we should all know that a victim is always someone's loved one.
I hope NYPD will investigate each accident appropriately...
New York Times and Gothamist also covered this stencil.
P.S.
Today, August 6th is the day an atomic bomb was dropped in Hiroshima 69 years ago.
We will never forget thousands of lives were taken there and wish it won't be repeated ever again.
Pray for the victims. Pray for the future.
